25 October, 2014
Dear Participants of ARMS8:
We hope you all had a safe and uneventful trip home.
As we reflect on last week's symposium, we are delighted to recall that more than 600 participants, including more than 130 students, attended the symposium from 37 countries and regions. Over the three days of the symposium, seven excellent keynote lectures, the 2014 Franklin Lecture, the Rocha Medal Lecture, and 329 excellent full papers were presented.
The symposium provided us with a great opportunity to respond to the symposium topics, "Rock Mechanics for Global Issues - Natural Disasters, Environment and Energy", and to promote the exchange of knowledge and experiences with each other in various areas of rock mechanics and rock engineering.
We are sincerely grateful to all the participants for contributing to the great success and enjoyment of this symposium.
We wish you all health and prosperity, and hope our paths will cross again soon.
Thank you very much.
Best regards,
Norikazu Shimizu
